Mr. Clarence R. MacVean

November 3, 1921 - September 3, 2014

Clarence R. MacVean, 92, of Johnstown, NY, passed away Wednesday September 3, 2014 after a brief illness with his loving family by his side. He was of the protestant faith and a former member of Broadalbin Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church, Johnstown, NY. Clarence was born Nov. 3, 1921 to the late Percy MacVean and Pearlia Dopp in Broadalbin, NY. He was a 1938 Graduate of Johnstown High School. Clarence was married to his late wife, Thelma Pedrick MacVean, for over 50 years, until her untimely passing in July of 1994. Clarence spent most of his working career at the Johnstown Knitting Mill, retiring as a Foreman, with 40 years of dedicated service in 1987. During WWII he worked for a period of time at General Electric Co., in Schenectady, NY. He was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge for over 50 years. He served as governor and member of the ritual team along with being “clerk of the works” during the building of the “new” Johnstown Moose Lodge. Clarence was a former member of the Johnstown City Bowling Leagues and the Enterprise League. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. Clarence is survived by a son; Paul MacVean(Dotti), of Johnstown, daughters; Mary Seaman(Dan), of Perth, Connie Doherty(John), of Broadalbin, son in law; Dick Edel, of Johnstown, his brothers; Arthur MacVean, of Johnstown and Donald MacVean, of Amsterdam, his sister; Ruth Beyer, of Vails Mills, 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He is predeceased by his loving wife and parents, his daughter; Diane Edel, brothers; Clemente MacVean, Percy MacVean Jr., H. Ross MacVean, Charles MacVean, and Robert MacVean, sisters; Hazel Brownell, Thelma Lester, Marian Hughes and Grace Everest, and his loving companion Eileen Bradt. The family invites relatives and friends to attend a visitation period from 4:00 to 7:00 on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at the Chapel at Ehle and Barnett Family Funeral Home, LLC, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, NY 12095. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at 1:00 pm. An Interment will immediately follow all services at Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin, NY. Donations can be made in Clarence’s memory to Nathan Littauer Foundation, 99 E. Clarence’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all of the nurses and staff at Nathan Littauer, especially those who came to his aid in the ICU.
